Today we celebrate the life of a great man that was humanely flawed. A true prophet of the people who spoke to the hearts, minds & souls of the world because he stood & died as a man with good intentions & true, clear & tangible leadership. He may have not gotten to the mountain top with us but he stands as a King, a man of honor, a man of dignity, an imperfectly great human being! Many may use the celebration of his birth & subsequent holiday to ridicule & to find flaws, but no one can deny that our world as we know it is a much better place for having him as an example of our humanity & what it could & should be. Dr. King walked with legions of others & the world rose up & stood in his light to righteousness, repentance & what is humanely right. As Dr King said “The Time is always right to do what is right“! Remember Dr. King by serving others in love & goodness.
“Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. you only need a heart full of grace. a soul generated by love.” Martin Luther King Jr.
“Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation and this means we must develop a world perspective…”Martin Luther King Jr.
“I come here tonight & plead with ya, believe in urself & believe that you’re somebody…nobody else can do this for us, no document can do this for us, no Lincolnian emancipation proclamation can do this for us, no Kennedisonian or Johnsonian civil rights bill can do this for us, if the negro is to be free he must move down into the inner resources of his own soul & sign with a pen an ink of self assertive manhood his own emancipation proclamation…don’t let anbody take your manhood, be proud of our heritage…we don’t have anything to be ashamed of, somebody told a lie one day, they couched it in language, they made everything black ugly & evil, look in your dictionary & see the synonyms of the word black- it’s always something degrading, low & sinister look at the word white, it’s always something pure..well I want to get the language right tonight, I want to get the language so right that everybody here will cry out YES I AM BLACK & I’M PROUD OF IT, I AM BACK & BEAUTIFUL!”
Happy Birthday Dr. King!
