This is about the Hope that we all put in family, friends, nation, career, lovers, children & dreams in search for an Obamaesque mastery & vision of what can be!

There once was the dream & hope of The Cleavers, The Kennedy’s & the Huxtables -they came & Left! Who would have ever thought that Dr. Huxtable & his ideal Black Family would ever be disregarded as being out of touch with  the state of Black America when he once represented the ideal of Black America’s aspiration in Black love & family?!

There maybe comparisons, but being The Real Deal You- Is what the Obama’s represent with little or no comparison. We can all want a mother/father, daughter/son, friend or lover that is Obama-like & we may even be convinced that we have achieved such, but can one really be or attain the real deal with all hopes in substitutions & comparisons?

MLK (Martin Luther King Jr. ) Day 2009, the day before Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America’s inaugural weekend! Today was a call to action day! As I got inspired by the joy, service, tears and the love story of the Obamas, Americans & the world at large. I called myself to action to write this book.

I was at the point when I realized that I had put too much of my hopes in so many people & situations: family, friends, lovers, career etc. Everything & everyone that I had put hope in that came & left, yet I was still here in perseverance through & for Hope!

Today was going to be different, a real change! It just felt too much like the real deal for it not to be! Hope came & left because the love that inspires & excites was lost!

Here I was again cleansing & recovering my energy back from all the relationships that had lost the love because they no longer inspired & excited me in the pursuit & accepting the possibility that perhaps I also failed to inspire & excite!

I have had the best & deepest of loves with family, friends, career , situations, lovers & self. When the good times came, they were euphorically good, but the bad times were bitter sweet because they consumed the focus away from the good times. I am at the point where I wonder what is wrong with me that I seem to put more hope in others than they seem to have for themselves, or is it that the hopes I put in others is to fulfill my expectations, which may not necessarily be their own expectations?

I spent the past year in the pursuit of total change for love that inspired & excited, which ended up with many casualties who were holding me back from change , much like the Bush years & our current economic crisis! I put my heart, money, energy, love, faith & complete hope on the line for Change . A change that would build, open new doors, cleanse the pains of the past & set the path for hope becoming reality in the collective lives & future of my relationships with my lover, my family, my friends & career. I heartbrokenly came to the realization that hope had come & left. Our hopes in people & situations should be in them for them, not in them to fulfill our personal expectations. I was ready for change & could no longer be invested in those who chose to remain stagnant.

How ironic is it that I came to this realization the week that Hope in the future for Change was to be revived with the arrival of President Barack Obama. Hope in all that I felt had come & gone. Hope in lovers, friends, family & career in its ability to bring, give & receive love that inspired & excited.

The word “beautiful” describes my idea of love that inspires & excites, & for me Barack Obama represents all that I see as beautiful. The man, the calming strength, the message, the parent, the lover, the leader. This was the time to have hope. When all hope is lost is exactly when hope is needed the most & Barack Obama delivered!

I heard so many people talking about looking for their Barack & their Michelle & wondered if that was really a realistic ideal for many who did not possess the qualities & responsibilities of what they were seeking. As many world wide make President Obama, the great last hope, I had come to a realization that I am my own great last hope. The message the messenger came to deliver on Martin Luther King Jr. Day was a call to action in celebration of what great changes individual actions can overcome & bring forth.

Change with a stroke of this pen/keypad has already begun, inspired & excited by a man who has shown us all how to have & give love: Love of family, love of others, love of putting in the work, love of service, love of the limitlessness in possibilities & achievements, love of self , love of life, love of hope that will be here to stay because it was brought about by love that inspires & excites. Today I am full of hope in pursuit for love that inspires & excites!

The Original All American

There was the original All American, blonde hair, blue eyed captain of the crew team; the prep school first. I thought I would spend the rest of my life with him, in the fantasy of being able to tell our children that their father was my first & only love.  My first love of 4 years, representative of all my puppy love fantasies. The picturesque but humanly flawed Maine family with a pilot father & a pharmacist mother, where lobster was so abundant that he disliked it!
A man who is a lifelong Republican & voted for John McCain, but represents everything that made us hopeful about Barack Obama.

He is a man that always saw passed color & lives his life truthful to himself & others. A man that I am blessed to call a life long friend. A laid back, calm man who knew early on that with respect, integrity & honesty you can win over all of the people all of the time.  A man who represents the strength in man’s goodness! All the beautiful qualities that make the world love President Obama.

He was not a Hope that came & left, but rather the beginning of my expectations & the hope that I would put in future lovers & others in my growth toward womanhood.
