The Grammy has become another one of those well established institutions resting & existing on past merits, significance and importance-representing the epitome of internal & external politricks & being out of touch with the present, while grasping at anything to maintain its relevance & longevity into the future. As I said last night to my friends on facebook & twitter who were complaining about their disappointment in the the Grammy awards:

“We all suffer from battered music fans syndrome- the Grammy is that perfect lover that looks so good on paper that we must have him, but then he ends up being abusive & not at all what we expected, yet we just can’t leave him & still want to believe that what drew us in will somehow miraculously work itself out or change- He is never going to change – so accept him & deal with him or move on to someone better because you know he ain’t worth ish LOL!”

It seems without Twitter & Facebook most people would have tuned out of the Grammy’s last night, including the celebrities in attendance who were just as much on a twitter frenzy as those sitting on their couch’s at home- says a lot about their interests in their own awards show. I honestly couldn’t give you much details about much of what was said or many of the performances outside of what sparked the interests of facebookers & twitterers, eventhough I had my television on the entire time- most of the time on mute because I was basically just uninterested & the background noise was getting annoying. I was shocked to hear that India Irie won a grammy because I didn’t even know she had an album out this year. How hypocritical of the Grammy board to try & make people feel bad about downloading music for free, while they don’t even support their artists by actually opening up the playing field so we know that a talented artist like India Irie had an album available to buy, download or just know about. Eminem getting best Hip-Hop album was a bit of a stretch, which clearly showed some odd favoritism because he has hardly been on the music scene this past few years & I will be willing to bet that many people on the Grammy board or in general can not name 4 songs off of the album that won. I was was happy for Beyonce making history by being the only female to win 6 Grammys in one night, but it just didn’t come with the same feeling of excitement & anticipation as it did with Lauryn Hill making history with her 5, or even when Alicia Keys got her 5 in one night. Maybe it’s just overexposure or too much of the same, which is why so many are going gaga for Gaga & being completely unabashed about bestowing very accolade on the seemingly genuine innocence of Taylor Swift. Honestly the only thing that got me sucked into the matrix of even being remotely interested in watching the awards was what ended up being the much to do about nothing hype of the Michael Jackson tribute. It was lack luster at best, I could careless about the whole 3-D hoopla – but I must say Jennifer Hudson’s voice brought beautiful soulful church to my ears. Thanks J-Hud!

I have always loved Stevie Nicks since her Fleetwood Mac days & love the idea of icons performing with hopeful future icons, but Taylor Swift tried, but I don’t think she was ready for Stevie Nicks just as much as the Jonas Brothers were definitely not ready to hang with Stevie Wonder. That Stevie Wonder/Jonas Brothers collaboration still makes me cringe with just the thought & memory. I heard there was an overly bleeped hip-hop performance by Lil’ Wayne, Eminem, & Drake, but after having to listen to Quentin Tarantino bastardizing the negro dialect, I just had enough. It’s a shame that hip-hop artists continue to make music that is poisonous to our youth & unfit for general public consumption, yet hip-hop artists get invited to perform vulgarity laden songs at awards shows just to be censored-whose zooming who? As the late great Donny Hathaway said “Someday we’ll all be free”!

As far as the rest of the performances go, all I can remeber is that Pink gave probably one of the best performances of the night even though she recycled her past MTV awards cirque du soleil performance with a little added H2O, which really seemed to arouse the attention of many lesbians on facebook & twitter. Maxwell was a soulful, sexy, not trying too hard breath of fresh air, who brought out legendary Roberta Flack for a beautiful duet, even though Ms. Flack seemed to have forgotten some of the words, perhaps because her face was a bit too tight, but out of love & respect I will refrain from saying anymore because I love me some Roberta! Beyonce walked the red carpet & entered the building as Sasha Fierce in a gladiator inspired outfit recycled from Rihanna’s September 2009 fashion spread in Italian vogue, while recycling or paying homage to Naomi Campbell’s infamous supermodel runway strut, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm nation & a montage of Michael Jackson’s futuristic /robotic/military style performances- all sucked into one crotch grabbing, booty shaking, head spinning, mind boggling, brain shaking Sasha Fierce illuminati matrix that beamed you up to the other side wondering what the hell just happened!

Then there was the overly hyper auto-tuned – damn is that the same great academy award winning actor-Jamie Foxx -giving us a Precious flashback while having everyone wondering if he had had his last academy award winning moment? Don’t get me wrong, I actually love Jamie Foxx & think he can really be a triple threat as an academy award leading man type of actor, a great stand-up comedian as well as a talented & gifted musician -but finding the balance of integrity & knowing when to say when sometimes seems to allude him. Two of the best posts I heard all night on Twitter & facebook were -”If Black Eyed Peas are the future then I want to stay in the past” & “Remember when the Black Eyed Peas used to be an underground hip-hop group”? Most people who did remember those days concurred with the fact that that was the last time they bought a Black Eyed Pea album because Fergie completely assimilated the group into the pop tart world, where they basically sold their hip-hop soul to the almighty green devil. Many including myself acknowledge the fact that the pop Black eye Peas have a whole lot more zeros in their bank accounts than the underground Black Eye Peas could ever imagine, but with someone as talented as Will.i.am leading the group, I wonder how he really feels about losing his hip-hop credibility & being lessened in hip-hop circles as a pop star known to scuffle with the likes of Perez Hilton, while often getting out shined by Fergie (a non original member who holds the cards as the one who catapulted the group to mainstream success).

BEP-THEN

NOW
must say I don’t hate this performance but in general I am not running to buy a BEP album anytime soon.

The biggest talk of the show + the rapid & rampant activity of facebook & twitter was more about the battle of everyone seemingly chasing Lady Gaga’s fame & limelight, where the focus is on the costume to bring you the type of attention & credibility that masks the lack of substance & talent. Many of those lacking the substance & talent failed in this respect because one can not outshine Gaga at the her own game, especially since she has the substance & talent to back it up. It’s so funny to me how the same people who are going gaga over Gaga either don’t know or are conveniently forgetting in attempts to want to be associated with the idea & lure of newness or the desire for originality, that she is just a replica/throwback to Grace Jones, Madonna, David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust & dear old Queen Elton John himself- the only thing original about Gaga is that she is allowed to shine in a pool of musical mediocrity & lack of creativity by being the first to mimic what no one else has thought to mimic to its fullest yet. Now everyone has caught on & desires a taste of the type of superstardom that always creates an industry formula to be replicated over & over again. Guess what? These fabulous icons of inspiration are still alive and are not ready to give up their reign, so tred lightly & pay respect where respect is due!

Everyone from guys to gals looked like they were auditioning for avatar, beyond thunderdome/gladiator remake, the Jetsons or one of Puffy & Mase’s shiny suit videos, which turned the red carpet into a futuristic not so hot- hot mess with everyone coming out- even the ridiculous Jersey Shore cast! I am more than sure that the fashion district is completely sold out of sequince, studs & shoulder pads. Khaki/beige/cream, gold & black seem to be the colors of choice for the evening -yawn & uninspiring. Some of my favorite red carpet looks included Pink, Jennifer Hudson, Fergie, Keri Hilson, Taylor Swift & I was even pleasantly surprised by the low key cream colored intricately designed gown worn by Beyonce- it was a refreshing change from the bodysuits & her usual gold overly bedazzled looks. I am still undecided about Rihanna’s dress because the furry front was a bit much for me. Common, Maxwell, The Jonas Brothers & Usher were a few of my favorites for the guys. I don’t know what happened to Jennifer Lopez, but I expected more from the fashion diva after so long -if she wants to compete with the new crop of pop divas then she better step it up like she’s JLo & not just Jenny from the block. Britney Spears & Katy Perry’s entire look head to toe-not so much! Lady Gaga -don’t see what all the buzz was about -frankly it was predictable & whatever to all those fashionistas who love to wear dark sunglasses at fashion shows & wave their fans like they are Karl Lagerfeld- saying it’s a work of art doesn’t make it fashion forward or beautiful fashion. Sorry Giorgio Armani, I maybe in the minority, but I was not impressed by the Armani Prive Gaga couture show. It seems designers are losing their edge by chasing trends instead of being the trend setters with integrity & legacy at the forefront. A well established design house with a legacy of making beautiful fashion for the sophisticated palate shouldn’t be begging & paying millions to have pop tarts, hoping to be future pop icons, wearing their designs when they have a following of real icons who truly give them the longevity as iconic brands. It is one thing for Mcqueen to turn out Gaga, but Armani prive just looks like they are just trying too hard to keep up with the Joneses by changing direction just to dress the “It Girl” of the moment.

I really would like to know how the Grammy’s can explain not inviting a top selling recording artist like Susan Boyel, yet extending an invite to the cast of the Jersey Shore, while many hard working deserving great artists sit on their couches at home watching & hoping to one day be able to receive a Grammy award invite. Inviting the cast of the Jersey Shore further solidifies the fact that the Grammy’s are more about fluff than substance & should not be really taken that seriously in defining one’s talent or “come-upings” as a celebrated member of the recording industry.

Here’s a funny review of the winners & someone who I think is hilarious & pretty much had the same thoughts I did except for the fact that he loved the Black Eyed Peas performance & could careless about it so he says he can’t be friends & the fact that he agrees that Taylor Swift rightfully received the album of the year award. According to much of the uproar on twitter facebook he is definitely in the minority in that thought process. I think too much flack & criticism was unjustly given to Taylor Swift- she is a talented young lady, who I think is a great role model in the over sexualized world of Miley Cyrus- Disney types pole dancing on ice scream trucks, when the majority of their fan base is under 13. As I said last night on Facebook if you don’t think that Taylor Swift should have won the album of the year then you should blame it on Kanye because he picked the wrong virtuous princess, All-American girl next door, who even the president of the United States came to her defense.

The abundance of the lack of self controlled outbursts & accusations displayed this past few days by Serena Williams & Kanye West, not to mention the many churches, congressman, people, pundits, athletic associations etc. seems to becoming more & more unacceptable in this new era, where there must be a sense of evolvement in one’s revolution. This is the Obama Era where being a role model is the top honor, the ultimate checkmate! Serena Williams & Kanye West are most definitely not in the same class of “Uncool” because their previous actions prove Serena as someone who just had a temporary error in judgement while Kanye proved more of the same in the character that is Mr. West- Good Morning! I just think back to Serena & Kanye -pumping their best “Yes We Can” message, where the message in the purpose was showing that one can achieve the impossible thru one’s level of personal evolution in the collective revolution of leading by example. Yes It matters, Yes We can, Yes We Will, Yes We Have, Yes We Are! Losing one’s cool is the most un-cool in this type of evolutionary revolution!

At a time when the leader you marched with is being hit with two wars with more downs than ups, the most death threats of any previous presidency, being disrespected by his subordinates in congress by being called a liar & having to be questioned, step up & speak on other people’s personal outbursts just because they supported his campaign & its message, which those same supporters have completely taken off message; He has chosen to move quickly past the controversy to get back to the business at hand because getting bills passed & achieving the goal/task at hand is more important than the disruption of a meaningless expected & wanted revolt that leads to nothing but distraction from the business at hand. The new era game is the evolution of & beyond the revolt. By any means necessary has left the barrel of the gun, the street march & the loudness of the outrage culminating into the tip of the pen. It takes the sharpest pen to attain the finest writing of our history.

Serena could have gone on to win the US open & represented the ultimate in keeping one’s cool thru adversity as an athlete, as a female & as a young African-American. Yes all that still matters in the evolution of our individual & collective revolution! She could have been exemplary in representing her country, her fans & herself in the finals of the US Open at Arthur Ash Stadium, the ultimate host of national & cultural pride & class in sport, but instead she chose to revolt & take herself out of the championship. Although she has had a taste of the finals & even the win on more than one occasion, the privilege to be in her position & the outburst are bigger than Serena. She is continuing to write a history that is bigger than her & was left off by people like Arthur Ash & Harlem’s own, Althea Gibson ( http://www.altheagibson.com/biographical.htm). Great Players of American/world tennis who understood that the story being written was bigger than their individual hardships & achievements, so instead of revolting they elevated the level of class in the sport known for its class. The US open is by all definition America’s classic culture showcasing the highest in class & sport, a sport where silence is required for ultimate concentration, a place where the expressing of jubilation comes at breaks in order for the recipient to enjoy & invite the applause. A world of fairytale like civilization, where Serena in one outburst broke the sacred vows of ultimate display of respectability & respectfulness for the sport, the rules, the cup, the nation & herself. I can see the cartoon spoof or the SNL spoof with the ghetto girl from Compton disrupting the white man’s sport, giving those who have not evolved from their own personal revolution more fodder & reason to pursue the revolution of the past & to return to a time of division. The division that was fought for & broken by Althea Gibson & Arthur Ash, the namesake of the home that represents the US Open’s invitation for the best of the best in the world in the ultimate game of class, marketed around the world as this sport which we call, Tennis!

Arthur Ash & Althea Gibson represent the understanding of keeping one’s cool, focus & concentration as class acts off & on the court, while always demonstrating the best in their game. A representation of the man/woman who paved the way for players like Serena to be amongst the highest paid players with endorsements & winning earnings combined . As the bible verse turned cliché goes-”To whom much is given -Much is Required”! We all have the opportunity see & own our mistakes, rectify them & begin the task anew. Serena & Kanye both chose the wrong time, words, people & instituations to mess with this time around. Threating physical violence to officials is a complete “no no” in tennis & disrupting the honor & acceptance speech of a young country singer who is seen as the ultimate role model for young people in the Obama Era of leading by example is a complete “no no” as well. Kanye West in his usual predictable childish outburst that only craves attention when he sees the focus is off of him, like any baby does, went as far as bullying a microphone from a likable young female musician who surpasses him in record sales & whose only desire was to graciously accept an award that she had dreamed of attaining one day in her career, an award that she clearly was surprised to get, but deserved because of her originality in the making of her music videos in comparison to the usual format of Beyonce’s videos.

I applaud Beyonce for being a class act & calling Taylor Swift on stage to finish her acceptance speech, but at the end of the day Beyonce is fabulous at what she does & we all know that she does Beyonce/Sasha Fierce the best. Maybe it’s not always a conspiracy, but rather a call & challenge to step up your game where there is a lot more competition & newness competing for the main prize. Serena’s competition was able to beat her because of a point, which she gave up herself by default of her outburst. She wasn’t far off from a loss due strictly to the game she was bringing & the level of competition that was brought to her by her opponent. Taylor Swift has crossed over from country to pop, to rock, to rap in her videos. She has shown she is not afraid to take risks while Beyonce just upgrades her usual formula.

Those who want to compare Serena’s 10k fine for threatening to shove the ball down the throat of a game official with the outburst of Congressman Wilson calling the President of the USA a liar & having to possibly publicly apologize & go thru censure, along with the foolish outburst of Kanye West, Please Don’t!! If you need to make comparison for understanding then compare Serena’s outburst to Federer’s because it’s the same institution, same game, same high profile players who have had exemplary records off & on the court. A Congressman who has had a past of voting for & perpetuating the the racial history & intolerance of America is no comparison to Serena or Kanye for that matter. There should not be any comparison for the other outbursts because they are of different sovereign entities with different rules, our congress represents our class & culture as a collective nation not just a sport or genre of music. Justifying one wrong with another wrong just leaves you with wrongs ,which can never make anything right.

All of these outburst were wrong & should be left to their perspective institutions to decide their punishments, instead of holding them to a public forum that detracts from the goals & real works of their perspective institutions. Now the day after the tantrum/outburst we are giving Kanye exactly what he wants -a full day or two & maybe even more of focusing on the subject of Kanye , where everyone from entertainment news, sports, pundits, bloggers, and actual traditional news forums are gathering experts, insiders, fans, or whomever has an opinion to express on the subject of Kanye, to hold forums in discussing & dissecting Kanye. We must tread lightly as we give his childish behavior too much attention with every cry & tantrum. Sometimes when we stop giving the baby attention with every cry & tantrum he/she innately learns to disassociate the cries & tantrums as the means for the reward of attention, thereby allowing a child to grow & become an independent entity. We really need to help our young people attain the necessary tools of growing up as independent entities with substance, instead of just the constant need for attention whether it is negative or positive while encouraging industries & individuals to reward only those who take responsibility for their actions & lack thereof! That whole Hennessey bottle carrying & sipping role playing was beyond foolish, tacky & begging for attention – very Un-Louise Vuitton Don –if I may say so myself-but then again Hennessey & Louis Vuitton are in the same fashion family, so I guess they go hand in hand-LOL!

Decorum, common sense & self respect should never be compromised at any age. It is a mockery when every outburst & corresponding apology comes with book sales, record sales, movie sales, air time & what most in the world will see as rewards for bad behavior. Now there is talk of a Kanye West/ Taylor Swift duet- OH Come On! Completely disingenuous & laughable on both sides if this occurs. Both Serena & Kanye went too far & took their frustrations out on the wrong people, wrong time, wrong era & wrong institutions. Being young & foolish is no longer an acceptable excuse when those who are younger than you are able to exert the discipline, class & self control which you lack. This time around the outcry & fall out maybe more steep & may determine their future in their respective fields. Lack luster apologies will not suffice, we are now in an era where actions in showing one has evolved will be the only way to move them & us all forward. This is an era where divisiveness & disrespect are unacceptable no matter who you are!

I really wanted to know what Venus Williams was thinking as she watched her sister ” lose it”. She looked so surprised & probably wanted to go to the rescue of her little sister from what she knew was about to be a regrettable mistake for her. With an entourage of family who truly have your best interest at heart , one can never go wrong & for sure this too shall pass when there’s the foundation of family. The foundation of family has brought us back Whitney, Michael, Mary J., Lauryn Hill –4 a brief moment-LOL! The foundation of family is why I have faith that this was just a bad mistake at an emotional moment for Serena because thus far she has been the representation of the class & spirit of modern day American tennis on a global level. Kanye, on the other hand, seems to have lost his total foundation of family with the loss of his mother, with no one to help balance the man-child from the character + he has shown himself countless times to over excessively seek attention through bad behavior, whereby he continues to get rewarded with the typical apology, until he needs another fix. Let’s stop being his enabler. At some point the man child has to grow up & if he chooses not to, then he may just get his wish to be the next “King of Pop” with a circus of a life played out in living color at his death, while forgetting his real contribution of good/great music! The role models are here/there! Those who have done extraordinary things, those who have fallen, those who have risen, those who have been there & done that , those who have set the example of what to do & what not to do by acting out the path from start to finish & those who have already set the blueprint for us to build on. It is up to Kanye to decide how he wants to build & finish his story. I hope he does stick to his word & goes away for awhile & writes the next Album “REHAB –A Return to find IT”- whatever “IT” is for Kanye because his “IT” factor has quickly SPIRALED!!

Did Serena really say I am going 2 kill you, or is it the conditioning of many who are not black to see a black person coming in an aggressive manner & automatically assuming that whatever comes out of their mouth is “I AM GOING TO KILL YOU” ; Yet we have American citizens toting guns at political & community gatherings wishing death to our president , but that doesn’t scare & threaten America(ns) as an automatic death threat as much as an aggressive black woman. REALLY?

Was Federer fined for this? Let’s keep it equal! Both Serena & Federer have had good track records as role models of their generation & future generation & both have been wonderful for the evolvement of the sport of Tennis. If one outburst can be forgiven based on the same criteria of track record then let tennis take its course!

I thought this was a white supremacist message when I first saw this, then realized it’s probably from someone black or someone that wants the audience to believe they are, thereby giving them a pass or right to speak on issues effecting black people. This is exactly what I mean when I say now is the era of an evolutionary revolution. For me as a black female to have thought that this was some sort of white supremacist propaganda on the Kaye Taylor Swift incident it turns out to be some sort of message from a fellow black person telling black people to wake up & act act right- Huh! There is a problem somewhere in the message or it’s delivery fight the revolution withith embracing the evolution. Message Lost!

The MTV Awards the other night basically made me reminisce over “The I Want My MTV ” era that I grew up with. I actually remember a time before MTV- LOL! MTV made me remember the time(s) & perhaps made a move to the passing of the baton to the new generation of what the originators started. The original MTV revolution evolving in a modern day form. The revolution of Aerosmith & Run DMC, Head Banger’s Ball, Yo! MTV Raps, Club MTV & House of Style. The MTV Era where music had no boundaries in collaboration or likability by the exclusive or the masses, the era when the coupling of fashion & music found its evolution in the revolutions of New York, London & global street cultures thru music. An era that brought the unification of supermodels & rock stars, celebrity coupling & took us from the real world to a not so real surreal world of outrageous cribs (some owned & some rented) just for the purpose of flaunting wealth in place of evolvement & growth. Showcasing an old/new game with a focus on materialism & excess without foresight for saving for the future, which eventually becomes our ultimate downfall each & every time change enters our lives, due to our own lack of focus & being unprepared as producers & consumers. The return to the past & the new future claim the same excess experience of the 80’s & 90’s which spiraled the ” I Want My MTV” generation into many triumphs, downfalls & losses of/to this thing we call music, fashion, pop culture, our life’s work, & our contribution to a global culture.

In the “I Want my MTV era, Roberto Cavalli would never be passed over with just a wave hello by Kurt Louder during the MTV awards red carpert during New York Fashion week- waaahhhtt, blasphemous! That was exactly wha the young, unknowing, unfamiliar with fashion legends, new English/Indian or Sri Lankan VJ on MTV did ( don’t know his name just like he has no clue who Roberto Cavalli is -just a matter of a different generation & lifestyle) ) as he passed by Cavalli to give away tickets to the show to 2 people in the outdoor crowd- LMAO! Cavalli’s face was priceless as he recognized the slight & perhaps realized this is no longer the Era of “I Want My MTV” & Cavalli! This is a new era when the young wealthy elite millionaires & billionaires that you have to cater to are younger than some of your own children. Long gone are the days when MTV threw the ultimate party for the marriage of Fashion & Music, where the red carpet & backstage was filled with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Blondie, Fab 5 Freddy, Tina Turner, Halston, Versace, Tears for fears, Thompson Twins, Madonna, Iman, David Bowie, Naomi Campbell, Versace, Cindy Crawford, Fiona Apple, Wham!, Neneh Cherry, REM, Culture Club,TLC, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers,Terrence Trent Darby, Salt N Pepa, Beastie Boys, Cyndi Lauper, ACDC, Queen, Whitney Houston, Guns N Roses, Nirvana, Grand Master Flash, NWA, Nas, Tupac, B.I.G, Sting, Lauryn Hill, Madonna, Warren Beatty, Robert Deniro, Toukie Smith, Cher , Bob Mackie, Grace Jones, John Paul Gualtier, De La Soul, Karl Kani, Maya Angelou, Martha Stewart, Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson & Michael Jackson!

The tribute for Michael Jackson with Janet coming out & performing their legendary “Scream”- made me just wanna scream! A Priceless -yes maybe obvious, but brilliant moment that handed the checkmate to the youngins’ who copy/mimic Janet & Michael’s style of dance & true showmanship as entertainers. Janet danced her way into letting the youngins know that although one of the originators may be gone in the flesh, one of the originators is still here! Janet was there to pay homag to her brother while getting her just due respect- Janet “Miss Jackson if your nasty” ! Hope the message was heard loud & clear & I can’t wait for the follow up Ms. Jackson because the preview was Nasty!

MTV Shows

Madonna perhaps got her ultimate glory moment in her Michael Jackson speech /homage. As an elder, she powerfully told & showed the youngins that yes, her & her crew/entourage created this phenomenon while chanting “I Want My MTV”. Now that we have our MTV & many more means for self expression & sharing one’s craft on a local & global level, we must recognize the gifts & who they came from & not abandon them only to sing their praises when they die.

MTV Shows

Lady Gaga only left out bringing Madonna on stage & paying homage in her performance because she gave us “Like a Virgin” & “Like A Prayer” all in one- tulled white dress, pearls, blood & all . Lady Gaga rocked a Jon Paul Gaultier creation, the same designer who made Madonna infamous with the cone bra/bustier & made Grace Jones legendary with even more haute looks, who is now dressing the new jacks- Say Word! hmmmm!!

Madonna like a virgin VMA’S 1984

I’ve seen Grace in my Face culminating into a comeback re-evolution of the other Island Girl turned pop star, hoping to be an icon in the making, who goes by one name, Rihanna. I’ve seen the channeling of Lady Di of Mahogany & the ever glamorous Lena Horne on red carpets , while channeling her alter ego of Tina Turner in performance, where we are taken from “Beyond the Thunderdome”, to “Proud Mary”, to a “Private Dancer”, culminating into the one called Beyonce AKA Sasha Fierce. I do not see any calling out of the names of these legends verbally or phyically calling them out on stage to give them their just due homage! Mimicry can never be paying homage until you recognize the creators who evolutionarized the gift! I feel like MTV was on a mission to make us who criticize the network & others for what we now see as incomprehensible evolution with the times by making us think back to the revolution that created MTV. Hmm -maybe we need to wake up & smell the coffee by reminiscing about the days/times that created the “I Want My MTV” era & what that consisted of. We are battling a new era of a lot of ignorant mimicry, while others show a genuine love, respect & knowledge of the craft & its intricate history.

Beyonce was the epitome of class & for the very first time in a long time, I felt her entire gesture & words were real & from the heart, nothing scripted or advised by her advisers to do. I found a new respect for you Ms. B! Smart move to get the hell away from Kanye’s mess + you know that the Taylor Swift’s reach is long & you don’t want to mess with that since you see she is coming for you, red dress to red dress- LMAO! Ahhh Who wore it best?!! Sometimes a real friend is someone who directly lets you know you are wrong & if you keep having to apologize for a friend, then maybe it’s time to let go of the extra baggage weighing you down. Your front row often determines the level & class of your brand –the branding of U- so choose your front row wisely!

Beyonce’s gesture & words was a nice way to return to , take back & to move forward the revolution of the “I Want My MTV” era who found out the hard way that the lack of checks & balances of the excess of experiences in the 80’s 90’s can spiral into the many downfalls & losses of this thing we call music, pop culture, our life’s work & contribution to one global culture.
From Rihanna ‘s “SOS” sample from Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love”, to Flo Rida’s “Right Round” sample of Dead or Alive’s “You spin me right Round (like a record)”, to Asher Roth as all 3 beasties & Sugar Ray in his videos. We are returning to the “I Want My MTV” era. It is a new MTV generation taking us back down memory lane in their own rendition of our collective evolution of the revolution thru remakes of styles & sounds ,while looking for something that will inclusively & exclusively define their generation. As elders & keeper’s of the dream, the mantra, the call & cause for the revolution, we must be willing to be available as role models to teach, learn, & evolve the revolution into less mimicry & more of a genuine homage that celebrates the gifts of our past into the gifts of the future. One can never know where they are going unless they know where they came from!
The Evolution of The Revolution Will Be Televised ! What will Inclusively & Exclusively define this generation?
