Product Of Global Fusion

Is my homage to African heritage & Style in collaboration with Onyx Noir, an exceptional designer who shares my global Vision & direction?

Product of Global Fusion came to my mind as an answer to seeing entertainers on the come up in Ghana rocking designer western labels with hopes of pushing their talents globally, while disregarding the uniqueness in the fabrics of their own culture, that I felt they could be promoting on a global level thru their art & style. There exists a rise in American & European designers incorporating African motifs, fabrics & inspirations in their collections, which will eventually be coveted by these same entertainers who were disregarding what was right in their own backyard.

A conversation started about politics, sealed the inspiration & excitement for my vision. I worried about what was to become of the future of Ghana in a change backward to elect the former VP of former President Rawlings ,who ruled Ghana for 19 years & the thought of going back to a former era that was controversial in leadership in the eyes of the world & many Ghanaians. The conversation turned to Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, a woman who gave merit to her husband in choosing an educated woman who inspired & excited the movement & pride in Ghanaian women by promoting Ghanaian style & pushing forth women’s rights. As the first Lady & face of Ghana to the world, she rarely if ever made any public appearance without wearing traditional Ghanaian fashion. I may not agree with all of her politics, but I dedicate & celebrate her, my grandmother, my mother, my aunts & all African women who inspire & excite through their sense of pride & style!

Chinese threat for Ghana’s textile firms

By Orla Ryan

Brightly coloured African textile designs are big business in Ghana
Ghanaian textile designer Philip Adu-Gyamfi wakes up in the middle of the night worrying about what he will design the next day. The African prints he and his team design for textile firm ATL are hugely popular. They are worn to church, funerals and weddings – every occasion, traditional or modern, that Ghanaians can find an excuse to wear them to. But Chinese copies of these designs are being smuggled into the West African country and sold at vastly-reduced rates. And this is forcing designers like Mr Adu-Gyamfi to work doubly hard to stay ahead. “It is not easy at all,” he says. “You get to a market and the design you have made has been copied, you feel like crying.”
