Ghetto Ballerina does not say anything about who Sibahle Tshibika is, but rather just speaks to the township that created this diamond out of such roughness. Sibahle Tshibika has not only had an HBO documentary entitled “Ghetto Ballet” based on her & the lives of the young people in one of the poorest Black townships in South Africa, Kyahalitsca, she has also been awarded the opportunity to join the Atlanta Ballet. Sibahle Tshibika’s story is another beautiful moment in our Global Fusions as an American documentarian looked to tell a compelling story of struggle & greatness out of South Africa that moved another American to simply write a letter that ended up making an African girl’s dreams come true- proving that it takes a global village to raise a child! Our world is more connected & globally fused than we can ever imagine & all we have to do is reach out & touch someone as we live our globally local lives! GET GLOBALLY FUSED!
“I was so hurt inside and I thought I would never be able to be a dancer again….If you believe in something, you should stick on it and be sure that one day it’s going to happen — and if it didn’t, don’t just give up,” said Tshibika. “Just tell yourself you’re going to make it.” READ MORE
