Sade’s “Feel no pain” seems so prophetic in these times when there just seems to be never ending suffering all over the world, in a type of survival of the fittest that pits “the haves” against “the have nots” with little mercy & consideration of our collective humanity. As more people continue to get laid off, more schools close, less food & funding to feed & aid the needy & the the world faces the devastation of a global recession that is causing worldwide depression, one can’t help but to see the rat race that we are in as individuals, nations, continents. It seems while the wealthy keep getting bailouts, the middle class is getting wiped out as poverty rises globally.
I watched a CNN story on joblessness as grown men who have always been the bread winners & generally responsible men broke down in tears on national TV because with all their education, experience & will-thousands of resumes sent out -they still remain jobless, some for more than two years. One man in particular made my heart break as he spoke of his young college age sisters who he had always been the one to take care of them & help them financially, now they sat there before him feeling sorry for him because they have had to take to help support him with their student loans. Something has to give because we are in a crisis & as much as we are told over & over again that things are getting better, the reality for most is that things are getting worse. I wish for all those suffering to ”feel no pain” & for the mercy & goodness of humanity to finally shine through so that our leaders will see just how much “We The People” are suffering in order to get their priorities straight! As Bob Marley said “Oh what a disgrace to see the human race in this here rat race…”!

Mamma been laid off
Pappa been laid off
My brother’s been laid off
For more than two years now
Ooh can’t get a job
Billy can’t get a job
Ooh they gotta listen to the blues
Help them to strive
Help them to move on
Help them to have some future
Help them to live long
Help them to live life
Help them to smile
Don’t let them stay home and listen to the blues
Pappa been laid off
Mamma been laid off
Billy can’t get a job
For too long too long
Don’t let them lose
We gotta give them a chance
It’s gonna come back on everyone
If you don’t make them dance
Don’t let them stay home and listen to the blues
There’s nothing sacred (why why why))
breathing hatred
We have to face it (why why why)
No one can take it
And feel no pain

One day we’re gonna wake up
And the ghetto’s all around
All over my friend
Have you ever seen a man break down
Do you know how that feels
To walk the streets with your head held high
Why, why, why
Oh Lord, have mercy
Did you ever see a man break down
There’s nothing sacred
Breathing hatred
We have to face it
No one can take it (how can they take that much)
And feel no pain
Ooh did you ever see a man break down
