Fela! Leads in 2010 Tony Award Nominations!

Musicals & Black people will be the toast of the 2010 Tony Awards. The Fela! buzz is erupting globally with the broadway show going to London’s famed British National Theatre & now a Focus Features’ film rendition of the life story of the incomparable Fela Anikulapo Kuti ,starring British-Nigerian actor Chiwetel Ejiofor! The musical about Nigerian socio-political activist &  Afro-beat Icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti has proven its MOP (movement of the people) power with 11 nominations for the 2010 Tony awards, followed by August Wilson’s “Fences” with 10 nods & two other musicals “La Cage aux Folles” with 11 nods & “Memphis” with 8. Fela! is favored to win best musical. It truly has become the little engine that could -from off-broadway to broadway with Jay Z & Will Smith bringing in the much needed funding & star power as producers.

Who would have ever thought that Jay Z would actually have a Tony award to call his own? Well with the buzz & success of Fela! Jay Z can make room for a Tony & let kids in the hood know that it is cool to sing show tunes & be a theater type of dude-LOL! More power moves in the building of the Jay Z Portfolio!

Side Bar: Is it me or does Beyonce have the full face of a pregnant woman in this picture? This picture makes me prone to believe the pregnancy rumors & the taking a break rumors. If she is truly pregnant then congratulations to the Carters & let’s hope that you will truly take a break from the spotlight to give us all a chance to actually miss you instead of the usual taking a break while still showing up at every event & Jay Z guesting on everyone’s album while in so called retirement.
